Author: Scott Snyder Artist: Greg Capullo Cover Artist: Greg Capullo, and Danny Miki Release: November 11, 2015 Rating: 4/5 Long Boxes "At last, Batman comes face to face with Gotham City’s deadly new villain, Mr. Bloom. With the fate of the city hanging in the balance, Batman reaches out to the one man who might be able to help him: Bruce Wayne!" |
Mr. Bloom certainly blossomed into a terrifying Batman villain with the most recent issue of Scott Snyder's and Greg Capullo's very impressive run on Batman. In Part Six of the Superheavy story arc readers get another run in with the horrific and ruthless Mr. Bloom as he crashes a banquet at Wayne-Powers Corporation. Not only do we very quickly find Batman squaring off face-to-face against Mr. Bloom (who wastes no time gruesomely killing off some new victims), but in this issue we also get bits of story involving Bruce and Julie Madison, and Duke Thomas. I'm not reading We Are Robin, but I have to say I really enjoyed Duke's segment this issue. As a matter of fact this entire issue was very good.
Even with the slight feeling of being bogged down in the middle of what will obviously be an extended story arc (odd that this will be longer than Batman Endgame), Snyder, Capullo, and team are still killing it with Batman. Mr. Bloom obviously isn't a throw away character, and it is always great to have a new, solid villain introduced. In addition to the mounting threat from Mr. Bloom, Gordon is also dealing with additional pressure from Geri Powers and Commissioner Sawyer. I'm not sure how long Batman Jim Gordon will be with us but I have to say I really like the current Snyder work. Don't get me wrong, I think we all want Wayne back under the cowl, but in addition to Jim Gordon stepping into the police sponsored Bat-role, Duke's story has been great and I've become really interested in the the build up in Julie and Bruce's relationship.
Snyder is doing a great job at building Mr. Bloom into quite the force to be reckoned with for Batman. Capullo, of course, is on point with outstanding art for another issue.
Fans of the Snyder and team run know what to expect. Readers may feel a slight slowdown in this issue, but the pay-off will be there. It will be interesting to see the seeds of Superheavy come to fruition. The consistent solid work of the Batman team continues with this issue.
Verdict: 4 out of 5 long boxes.
